Texas Lawmakers Examine Safety as Driverless Deployment Accelerates

Texas lawmakers are taking a closer look at autonomous vehicle safety as driverless cars become increasingly common on roads across the state. A legislative committee is studying the deployment of AV technology, including its impact on traffic collisions and whether additional recommendations are needed to ensure public safety. The review comes as Texas implements a new statewide regulatory program requiring companies to receive authorization before commercially operating automated vehicles. State regulators now have authority to restrict, suspend, or revoke authorization when an autonomous vehicle is determined to pose a serious public safety risk. The discussion reflects Texas’ effort to maintain its position as an AV-friendly state while adapting its oversight framework to a rapidly expanding industry. The findings could also influence how other states balance large-scale commercial deployment with calls for stronger transparency and safety requirements.

Atlanta Rideshare Drivers Push Back Against Robotaxi Expansion

Atlanta rideshare drivers are calling for greater protections as autonomous robotaxi operations expand throughout the city. The Atlanta Rideshare Drivers Union says drivers are experiencing fewer fare opportunities, longer waits, and declining earnings as autonomous vehicles take a larger role in the local ride-hailing market, though comprehensive data measuring the impact is not yet available. The group is asking Georgia lawmakers to consider a robotaxi impact fee of between 50 cents and $1 per ride and wants autonomous vehicles prohibited from picking up passengers at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The debate introduces another dimension to autonomous vehicle policy: how states should address the economic effects of automation on existing transportation workers. Georgia has generally maintained a supportive regulatory environment for autonomous vehicles, making the emerging dispute an important test of how policymakers balance innovation and investment with workforce concerns. Similar debates are likely to emerge in other metropolitan areas as robotaxi fleets become a larger part of everyday transportation.

Autonomous Vehicle Leader Says There Is No AI Shortcut to Self-Driving

Toyota Targets Near-Fully Autonomous Passenger Vehicles by 2028

If deployed at scale, these technologies could expose millions of consumers to increasingly sophisticated autonomous driving capabilities and help bridge the gap between today’s driver-assistance systems and higher levels of autonomy.

Next-Generation Robotaxi Puts Passenger Experience at the Center

A leading autonomous vehicle company is promoting its newest purpose-built robotaxi as a “living room on wheels,” signaling a shift in the industry from proving that driverless technology works to rethinking what passengers can do when no one needs to drive. The vehicle features a spacious interior, large digital displays, customizable climate and entertainment options, and an AI-powered in-car assistant. The company has partnered with Martha Stewart to highlight the vehicle’s comfort, privacy, and ability to function as a mobile workspace. The vehicle also incorporates accessibility features including embedded braille, screen-reader compatibility, and additional assistance for entering and exiting. As autonomous driving technology matures, vehicle interiors could increasingly be designed around how passengers spend their time rather than around the needs of a human driver.
